The Southern Angami Students’ Union(SASU) carried out a “FRUIT TREE PLANTATION DRIVE” on May 10. The drive was held in commemoration of its 75 years Jubilee to be held in January 2025 at Viswema Village. The event was initiated by the Jubilee Committees along with the SASU Executives under the theme “Each one , Plant one” which ultimately aims towards initiating sustainable economy for tomorrow.
The kick off programme was held at Kimipfüphe Ground, Kigwema. The programme was chaired by Letso Mekro, President SASU and graced by Ayieno Hibo, Additional Director, Department of Horticulture Government of Nagaland.
In her addressal note, Ayieno emphasized on the importance of planting fruit trees and how every fruit tree we plant today, are fruits for the future generation and the generations to come since fruit trees can even survive over 100 years . She also brought to light how fruits trees can also boost the economy so also citing examples of individuals who are making a livelihood out of nursery and fruit productions.

Huvesa Medeo, an expert Persimmon cultivator and entrepreneur highlighted on the behavior of the plant and also demonstrated on how to plant and care for the fruit tree.
Shürhovol Naleo, the Convenor of the Organizing Committee wrapped the programme by thanking all the participants for their coorporation and service towards the success of the event.
Following the programme, around 1800 fruit tree saplings of Avocado, Persimmon, Plum and Peach were distributed to all the 13 villages of the Southern Angami region and to few institutions around it’s premises.
