Sazolie College of Teacher Education celebrates 10th Cultural day

The Sazolie College of Teacher Education, Jotsoma observed the 10th cultural day under the theme “Our Culture, Our Identity”, with Dr. Gopal Chetri, Principal, Sazolie College  as the Chief Guest on October 12.

Dr. Chetri in his address stressed on the importance of remembering one’s past while moving towards the future. He expressed the richness and diversity of Naga culture which according to him forms the core of an individual’s identity. “Identity is an inheritance which the young minds receive and therefore, the youth of today should play an active role in preserving culture as it is the source of identity,” stated the Principal.

Reflecting on the importance of holding on to one’s own culture, Mrs. Lemmila Khamrang, Asst. Professor SZCTE in her welcome address, quoted Marcus Garvey and stated,  “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

The event was chaired by Boya Konyak and consisted of various performances in the form of song, dance, ethnic show, a skit and a special musical piece by Fr. C. Joseph, Counselor of St.Joseph College Jakhama. The highlight of the event, stated the press release, was the snail eating competition wherein Kevineizo Nakhro of B.Ed. 3rd semester and Mheche Wetsah of B.Ed. 3rd semester won the first and second position for the Men’s category, while Tonika P. Chishi of B.Ed.  3rd semester secured the first position in the Women’s category. The event ended on a high note with the vote of thanks delivered by Kivikali N. Achumi.
