In the wake of recent attacks by militants using drones, Security Forces in Manipur have deployed anti-drone systems across the State. The Manipur Police said that the Assam Rifles have deployed a few at fringe areas to repel any rogue drones while the CRPF has also given one to the State’s Police force. Some more anti-drone guns are being brought to the State by CRPF shortly, it said.
The State Police has also started the process for procurement of anti-drone system to enhance its security measures and tackle threats from drones effectively, it added.
On Saturday evening, around 6.35 pm to 7:05 pm, on getting reports of an unidentified flying article flying above Imphal Airport, senior officers of Police and CRPF rushed to the Airport to investigate. However, the veracity about the news of drone flying above the airport cannot be verified, the Manipur Police stated.
Earlier on Saturday morning, one person was killed at Nungchappi Village under Jiribam District in an attack, suspected to have been carried out by Kuki militants. Firing continues between the miscreants and the village volunteers in the neighbouring Rasidpur Village where another person was killed. Militants also reportedly fired on Superintendent of Police, Jiribam and his team. Later, four dead bodies of suspected miscreants were found, the Police said.
In the late evening again, some miscreants attempted to loot arms from 7th MR, Khabeisoi and 2nd MR, Imphal but were dispersed by Security Forces by firing tear smoke munitions and blank rounds. Later, while the reinforcement party was returning from 7th MR, they were fired upon by miscreants in which 2 (two) Police personnel were injured, the Manipur Police stated.
