Sedekevi Peli (Peli No. 17) of D. Khel, Kohima Village, celebrated its 25th anniversary at Tsiethoukhouzou Mechüpru, D. Khel, on March 1. The occasion was graced by MLA and Advisor of the Department of School Education & SCERT, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.
In his speech, Yhome spoke on the vital role of a strong and empowered youth in fostering a resilient and prosperous village. He reflected on the age-old concept of the “fear of the stranger,” a sentiment deeply rooted in human nature, but urged the community to exercise discernment in distinguishing between what benefits and harms society. He also highlighted the importance of food security, noting Kohima Village’s fertile land, and called for a renewed focus on self-sustainability to ensure long-term prosperity.
Yhome encouraged the gathering to embrace openness and hospitality toward outsiders while remaining steadfast in preserving their traditions and values. He emphasized that love and mutual respect are timeless principles that strengthen community bonds, praising the gathering for exemplifying these ideals.
Pelesielie Khezhie, Chairman of the Dapfhütsumia Council, extended warm greetings and lauded Sedekevi Peli for its remarkable achievements in just 25 years. He commended the youth as the pride of their khel (clan) and village, expressing hope that their accomplishments would inspire others. He also wished for the jubilee to be a time of reconciliation, peace, and love, fostering unity within the community.
Neisakuolie Kire, President of the Daphütsumia Peli Union, urged the younger members of the Peli to seek guidance, avoid overindulgence in alcohol during celebrations, and take their responsibilities seriously. He stressed the importance of contributing to societal betterment and praised Sedekevi Peli for their vision and dedication. He also appreciated the inauguration of a community resting shed, a testament to their commitment to service.

Menuosetuo Yiese, President of Sedekevi Peli, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the significance of the milestone. As part of the celebrations, a traditional resting place and a jubilee stone were inaugurated, symbolizing the Peli’s enduring legacy and commitment to the community.
The program commenced with an invocation by Medoselhou Keretsu, a deacon from Khedi Baptist Church, who blessed the event and set a spiritual tone for the festivities.
Keneikhrietuo Khezhie, Convenor of the organizing committee, shared the history of Sedekevi Peli, recounting its humble beginnings in 2000 when 13 youths came together and worked in the fields to raise funds. Today, the Peli has grown to 63 members, including 48 boys and 15 girls, reflecting its strong foundation and remarkable growth over the years. The jubilee not only celebrated the Peli’s past achievements but also reaffirmed its dedication to community service, unity, and progress.
The event was skillfully chaired by Kelhouravo Kire and Ketoulhounuo Khezhie, with the vote of thanks delivered by Kelhousekuo Khezhie. The celebration marked a proud milestone for Sedekevi Peli, showcasing its unwavering commitment to the community and its bright future ahead.
