The Seiyhama Students’ Union (SSU) observed its 3rd Union Day on December 20 at the Council Hall, Seiyhama Village, with Dr Metuo Liezietsu, Assistant Professor, Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University, Meriema Campus, as the speaker.
According an update, Dr Liezietsu in his speech said that the road to the future lies in education, emphasising that true education is a continuous process encompassing formal learning, workplace exposure, community engagement, and life experiences.
He noted that education enhances critical thinking, promotes human development, provides livelihood opportunities, nurtures excellence, and equips individuals to solve real-world problems.
Stressing on the union’s motto, “Hard labour overcomes everything,” he said the present generation must relearn the dignity of labour that sustained their forefathers. He added that education should help individuals rediscover such values so that the union’s motto is truly realised.
Encouraging students to remain rooted in their identity, Dr Liezietsu said it is important to understand one’s origins and traditions, including the values of honest living and other enduring aspects of culture and heritage.
He pointed out that the concept of ‘kenyü’ or genna existed even before the arrival of American missionaries in 1880 and that education, which accompanied Christianity, has since become central to society. Today, he said, education remains the primary means through which parents hope their children will build meaningful lives.
Highlighting the importance of one’s mother tongue, Dr. Liezietsu said language is the fastest medium for transmitting knowledge and therefore must be preserved, protected, and promoted alongside English.
He also observed that career guidance provided only at the Class 10 level is too late and should begin at earlier stages to help children prepare for diverse career options aligned with their interests.
Calling upon students to recognise their responsibilities, Dr. Liezietsu urged them to develop a broad vision, apply the knowledge they gain meaningfully, and become beacons of help to society.

The programme was chaired by Menuoleü Zumu, Treasurer, SSU. The invocation prayer was offered by Thepfuvizo Metha, Missionary, ABCC, followed by the welcome address by Setuolie Theünuo, President, SSU. A special song was presented by GMS Seiyhama and Ketouzo Sopfünuo. The secretary’s report was presented by Medolenuo Metha.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Khriekethozo Sopfünuo, Education Secretary, SSU, while the benediction was pronounced by Atoulie Sopfünuo, Assistant Pastor, CRC Seiyhama.
Award of excellence was also given to Neilhouzhalie Thernuo (GMS Seiyhama) who secured Top 9 in the recently declared resilt of Primary School Leaving Certificate ( PLSC) under EBRC Chiephobozou.
During the programme, New Office Bearers Search Committee Convenor Kevineizo Zumu introduced the newly elected team for the 2026–2028 tenure, led by President Keneinguzo Zumu and Khriekuolie Thepa, along with 19 other executives. Blessings were pronounced upon the new team by Neizolie Sopfünuo, Pastor, CRC Seiyhama.
