The 39th Sports Meet & 2nd Edition Naga Wrestling Championship 2023 of the Sekrüzu Area Sports Association (SASA) got underway today in Sekrüzu HQ under Phek district.

Sovenyi Nyekha, former CSU & CPO president, graced the inaugural function as the chief guest and encouraged the players to strive for excellence at the higher level.

He unfurled the Association’s flag, inaugurated the rostrum and declared the meet open.

The meet will continue till 9 January.

Bilhünyi Nyekha, president of Sekrüzu Area Public Forum and Vedeyi Swüro, Phühgi Village Council chairman, also addressed the gathering while Besühveyi Veswü and Khatsoi Sapu invoked God’s blessings through the dedicatory prayer and invocation respectively.

The inaugural function was chaired by Khokuto Sapu, president while Müdotüzo Tetseo delivered the Presidential Address. ASA Games & Sports Secretary Kuvoto Shijo administered the oath taking to the participating teams.

Eight villages including one town that comes under SASA – Dzülha, Thürütsüswu, Khütsa, Phühgi, Rüzazho, New Rüzazho, Suthozu Old, Suthozu New and Sekrüzu Town – are taking part in the meet.

The tournament is hosted by Phühgi Youth Welfare Union. The meet will feature track and field events, football, volleyball, basketball and Naga wrestling.
