Seminar on Chokri Language organised by CCLB

Kohima: CCLB officials and participants on October 18 at Chokriba in Phek district

The Chokri Chakhesang Literature Board (CCLB) organized a comprehensive one-day seminar under the theme “Chokri language and its usage” covering all Chokri speaking villages in Phek district, Nagaland.

The seminar was conducted in two phases, Phase-I on September 20, 2025 at Chozuba Town and Phek Town while Phase-II on October 18, 2025 at Chokriba and Sakraba Town.

During the phase-II, the program was attended by approximately 350 participants which included language teachers, church leaders, village council leaders, student union leaders and community leaders reflecting widespread community commitment towards preserving and development of Chokri language.

The resource persons were Vesavolü R. Soho, Vengota Nyekha, Dr. Sekholu Tetseo, Vetsüno Ringa and Thukuvelü Sakhamo who delivered detailed presentations on status of mother tongue Development, importance of mother tongue and technical aspects of Chokri language development covering linguistic documentation, inclusivity, standardization and educational integration.

According to the update the seminar highlight was the vibrant discussion hour, where participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm and a collective resolve to protect and promote the mother tongue.

The event also highlighted the Nagaland government’s initiative to introduce Chokri as a subject in Class 9, with ongoing textbook development for Classes 10 to 12.

Additionally, CCLB also presented the Board’s aim to launch a diploma course with syllabus and literature of the course already prepared, which was met with enthusiastic community support signaling a promising future for Chokri language education.

Furthermore, the CCLB expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants and resource persons for their time, resources and dedication, emphasizing hope for continued collaboration to safeguard and advance the Chokri mother tongue.
