A seminar on vocational education was conducted today at Government Higher Secondary School, Kiphire under Samagra Shiksha Nagaland (2023-24) on the topic Photography and Entrepreneurship.
Kitoka Sangtam spoke about the basics of photography rules and skills and how one can adapt different genres of photography to start a business for livelihood or just passion. He expounded on the definition and etymology of photography, it’s meaning, and origin and the different types of photography.
“Photography is an art of expressing oneself through pictures,” Sangtam said.
Stating that photography is a booming industry in the state, he stressed that people who like to push the limits are the one progressing and moving ahead of others. He added that there are hundreds of photographers in Nagaland most of who are a full-time wedding photographer as it is a reliable field for most to survive and grow in the industry.
“Photography is not just about expensive gears or gadgets, it is about creativity, effort and consistency,” Kitoka stated, advised against buying high end equipment at the beginning of one’s career.
Rather, he advised that beginners should do research and learn from experienced professional photographers through internet as it can give lot of information to learn the basics but eventually applying the theory in practice through constant efforts and affordable gadgets.
He also encouraged them to take up photography and editing classes which are also available in the state capital and Dimapur.
At the program, sudents also got hands on skill training on how to use a camera with basic understanding of its mechanism.
Overall, the students of class 11and 12 participated, including some alumni.
