Seminar on quality education in Chakhesang areas held in Phek

The Chakhesang Scholars’ Forum (CSF) in collaboration with the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) organised a seminar on ‘quality education in Chakhesang areas’ on October 26 at CPO building, Phek.

The seminar in Phek is the first of a three-phase session aimed at promoting inclusive and quality education in the Chakhesang areas particularly at the elementary level, which is the fundamental stage for setting up a strong foundation for future learning and development, informed a press release by the Chakhesang Scholars’ Forum (CSF).

It hopes to provide a platform where scholars, academicians, teachers and public leaders belonging to the Chakhesang community can discuss and navigate a holistic approach towards quality education. It also aims to realize that, by engaging the local communities and organizations, better results in quality education can be anticipated.

CSF Chairman Dr. Zavise Rume explained that the seminar is an opinion gathering exercise in order to explore the possibilities of implementing quality education in the region. It is a platform for healthy interactions and wider consultation with educators, leaders and scholars in hope to improve quality education in chakhesang area. The opinions gathered at the seminar will be assessed and a resolution will be adopted accordingly. Towards this, he called upon the gathering to work closely with one another more than before to achieved the desired goals.

CPO President Vezuhu Keyho said the organisation as an apex body have been concerned about the quality of education in the Chakhesang area especially in the elementary level and made it a priority. CSF being the highest intelligence body in the community, has been tasked with organising the seminar series to address the issue, he said.

He added that elementary education is key to a strong society and in order to cultivate responsible citizens, it is important to strengthen and give focus on foundational learning.

He urged the educators and teachers to assimilate the good practices and culture of the community into their teaching methods. Ultimately, the quality of a society depends on the dedication and commitment of the teachers, he added.

Resource persons for the day were Medozü Mero, CSF Advisor and Dr. Runi Nakro, Associate Professor State College of Teacher Education (SCTE) with Rukuzo Rüho, Joint Secretary CSF and Dr Tsutshowe-ü Sekhamo, Secretary Academic and Journal Publication CSF moderating the technical sessions.

Earlier, Dr. Gideon Phesao, General Secretary, CSF, gave presentation on Statistics on School Education in Chakhesang areas incorporating data collected from the SDEO Phek, Pfutsero and Chozuba, NBSE, Rural Development Department and 2011 census.

Currently, there are 189 schools under SDEO Phek, Pfutsero and Chozuba out of which 131 is government school and 58 schools are private.

Rev. Dr. Thüpucüyi Khesoh, Pastor Phek Town Baptist Church pronounced invocation, folk song was presented by Vezholu Tetseo, Ravo Rhakho and friends while Dr Nütazo Lohe, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Phek Government College, chaired the introductory session.

Two other seminars on the same topic will be conducted in Pfutsero and Kohima respectively in the month of November.

Over 60 participants comprising of educators, leaders, scholars, and students attended the seminar and actively participated in the discussion hours.
