Sensitization program on child rights held in Tseminyu

In a proactive move towards promoting child rights awareness, the District Child Protection Unit under the Mission VATSALYA, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland, organized a sensitization program at the Tseminyu Town Hall on December 6, informed the DIPR.

The keynote address for the program was delivered by Sekho Dawhuo, District Child Rights Protection Officer, Kohima, who is also in charge of the Tseminyu District Unit. Dawhuo set the tone for the session, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding child rights within the community.

Rheituohunuo Whuorie, District Project Coordinator of Child Helpline, Kohima, provided a comprehensive speech introducing Child Helpline 1098. Megoneituo Kielienyu, Legal Cum Protection Officer, delved into critical aspects such as Child Rights, POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences), Child Marriage, and the Juvenile Justice Act.

The closing remarks were offered by Vepotolu Ringa, Protection Officer (IC), concluding the enlightening session with key takeaways for the participants. The program, chaired by Jetilo Apon, Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee in Tseminyu, also featured a special performance by students from EU Government Higher Secondary School, Tseminyu. Ale Khing, Assistant Pastor of the Youth Department at Tseminyu Town Baptist Church, commenced the event with an invocation prayer.
