Phek: Advocate Jamir encourages village heads to form village monitoring committees and students’ unions to form legal cell

A sensitisation workshop on “Preventing & Combating Child Trafficking” was held at DPDB Hall, Phek on July 24, 2024, with Tongpang L. Jamir, Advocate, High Court, Kohima bench as the resource person, informed DIPR.
John Tsulise Sangtam, Deputy Commissioner, Phek, in his welcome addressed also deliberated about the significance of the program.

Tongpang Jamir, Resource person, gave a detailed presentation on Child Trafficking, in which he explained the human trafficking networks, its reason, modus Operandi, various case studies, laws and role of various stakeholders like NCPCR, SCPCR, Police, NGOs, DLSA and others. Jamir also spoke about sexual exploitation, bonded labour, organ trafficking and illegal adoption of networks, constituting child trafficking.

He encouraged the village heads to form village monitoring committees and students’ unions to form legal cell for the same.

Dr. Pritpal Kaur, SP Phek, IPS gave a brief description about laws related to Child Trafficking like IT(P) A 1956, POCSO ACT, JJ ACT, BNS, UNICEF guidelines, child helpline 1098, ATHU- Anti human trafficking unit and women help desks at Police Station levels.

A special song was presented by Neikhoyi Rhakho, LDA, DC office Phek. The program was chaired by NengpichongSingsit, EAC Phek. The program was attended by Phek Town Council Members, Students’ leaders, Women leaders, village elders and public.
