About 150 Nagaland Police constables staged a peaceful protest outside the Police Headquarters in Kohima on February 28. The demonstration was organized to express their discontent with the Gauhati High Court’s decision, which invalidated the appointments of 935 Nagaland police constables recruited without advertisement between January 2018 and October 2019, as well as an additional 163 constables appointed from January 2018 to September 2020.
The peaceful rally witnessed the protestors displaying placards which read: “Set course for the future but don’t punish the past”; “We are frontline COVID warriors”; “We don’t want another faction”; “Not easy being a constable”; “Is Nagaland Police the only Scapegoat?”
A total of 1,138 police personnel from the 2018–2020 batch were impacted by the High Court’s ruling, mentioned Soriso, Additional Superintendent of Police (Additional SP) and Public Relations Officer (PRO). The affected personnel are from various units under the State’s Home Department.
