Seven engineering students killed in car crash; six others hospitalised in Guwahati

Guwahati: Police says there were ten passengers travelling in ill-fated SUV, all of them students of AEC

Seven students of Assam Engineering College (AEC) in Guwahati, Assam were killed on the spot when the SUV they were travelling in crossed over the road divider and then hit a goods carrier on the other lane.

The incident was said to had happened around 1:00 am on Monday in Jalukbari area (near Guwahati University) in the city.

According to police, there were ten passengers in the vehicle, all of them students of AEC, and while seven had died, the other three were in critical condition at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The three passengers in the goods carrier are also reportedly hospitalised in the same hospital.

Speaking to media, he requested parents/guardians of youths studying in Guwahati to monitor their children/wards. He said that he will also request administrations of colleges in Guwahati to check on their students so that such unfortunate incidences can be prevented.

CM Sarma later expressed his anguish over the “loss of young and precious lives in the road accident at Jalukbari” in a Twitter post. He further extended his condolences to their parents and families of the students.

He also said in his post that he had spoken to authorities at GMCH and that all possible medical assistance is being provided to those injured.
