Four Manipur Commandos and three BSF personnel were reportedly injured after armed men attacked a convoy at Moreh in Tengnoupal district. The injured personnel were later airlifted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal for treatment.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited RIMS Hospital on Tuesday where he met the injured personnel.
“My heartfelt thoughts are with the victims and their families in this challenging time,” Singh said on X. He also asserted that his government is committed to “tackling those bent on destabilizing Manipur, ensuring justice for the victims with decisive actions against the responsible parties.”
Earlier on Monday, the New Year Day was marked by bloodshed as four people were killed and at least six were injured in Lilong Chingjao in Thoubal district.
N Biren Singh, on Tuesday, visited the families of the deceased and offered his condolences. The Manipur CM also assured justice. Earlier he had visited the injured at Raj Medicity.
“We strongly condemn all forms of violence, and the state government has launched mass combing operations to nab the culprits and the culprit will be punished according to the law. No one is above the law,” Singh said on X.
On 1 January 2024, in his New Year Message, the Chief Minister had described the prevailing ethnic violence as one of the worst phases in Manipur’s history. He said that it has caused loss of many lives, uprooted many from their homes, disrupted the fabric of peaceful co-existence and slowed down economic activities in the State.
“It is high time that we rise together to overcome the barriers and stumbling blocks in our journey towards a better Manipur, where all its people live together peacefully, harmoniously and get access to the facilities of a developed state,” Singh urged the citizens of Manipur.
He also appealed for all to “forget and forgive the trauma of the past and start the New Year 2024 in an atmosphere of love and compassion.” With the onset of the New Year, let us resolve to stand together, rise above all evil thoughts and work steadfast to take the State back to its earlier track of growth and development, he added.
