‘Severe’ Lumpy Skin Disease outbreak in Mollen, village seeks help from veterinary dept

Meluri: Consuming or selling of beef temporarily banned in Mollen village

The outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease in Mollen Village under Meluri Subdivision of Phek district has been said to be ‘severe’. The Secretary of Mollen Village District Planning Board informed that the infection was first detected in the village in the first week of August.

The Secretary of the board stated that cattle farming is the main source of income for the population of Mollen village which is just over 600. He also informed that due to the Lumpy Skin Disease affecting the cattle the villagers are suffering huge loses.

It was also mentioned that there were two community farms reared by the villagers and in one of those farms 80 cases had been detected out of which 13 died.

The Secretary said that the veterinary department visited on 21 August and took blood samples for testing but further appealed to the department to look into their grievances as their main source of income is at stake.

Meanwhile, in view of the Lumpy Skin Disease outbreak, consumption or selling of beef has been temporarily banned in the village.
