Longtili C. Sangtam, Vice President of the Seyochung Village Students’ Union, held two crucial meetings today in Kohima with officials from the Department of School Education and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, seeking to address key concerns impacting Seyochung Village, Kiphire District.

In the first meeting, Vice President Sangtam met with the Deputy Director of School Education to discuss the ongoing challenges at Government High School in Seyochung Village. He raised concerns about the shortage of key staff, including a Headmaster, Assistant Headmaster, and Science teacher. As a result, students who sought enrollment in higher classes for 2024 have been sent to Government High School in Kiphire Town. This has caused disappointment within the community, as families were hopeful that students could continue their education locally. The Deputy Director emphasized the importance of an active School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) to help ensure the smooth functioning of the school and called for greater community involvement. He assured Sangtam and the Union that the department would take necessary steps to address the issue. The Union thanked the Deputy Director for his support and commitment.

Later in the day, the Union met with the Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare to discuss the urgent need for upgrading the Health and Wellness Center in Seyochung Village to a Primary Health Centre (PHC). Sangtam pointed out that with the growing population and the significant distance from the Sub-Divisional Headquarters, the village urgently requires a PHC to improve access to healthcare. The Principal Director responded positively, acknowledging the need and promising that the department would explore ways to address the upgrade. However, he mentioned challenges related to limited funds and staffing, which currently hinder immediate progress. Despite these challenges, he assured that the department remains committed to finding a solution.

The Seyochung Village Students’ Union expressed gratitude to both officials for their positive engagement and commitment to resolving these important issues that directly impact the community
