The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) visited the Health and Wellness Centre in Seyochung Village to discuss various challenges faced by the centre with the Community Health Officer.

According to a press release issued by the Union, during the discussion, the officer pointed out that the labour room and toilet extension, which was supposed to be completed, has not even started.

Another concern is the shortage of medicines. While the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office supplies medicines, the stock is not enough to meet the needs of the patients.

The officer also shared that five neighboring villages depend on this health centre occasionally, even though they do not visit regularly. When they do, the centre struggles to provide adequate medical care due to limited resources.

“Additionally, the absence of a sweeper is affecting cleanliness and hygiene at the centre. With no one assigned to maintain cleanliness, the situation is becoming difficult,” stated the Union.

It also highlighted the shortage of healthcare staff. According to the Union, the officer explained that having only one Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) is not enough for a large village like Seyochung. To ensure smooth functioning, the centre needs at least two ANMs.

In response, SVSU President Longtili C. Sangtam assured that the union will extend all possible support and urge the concerned authorities to address these issues at the earliest.
