The Core Committee on Naga Political Issue (CCoNPI) delegation led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with the Home Secretary and the IB Director at New Delhi.
The Union Home Minister, during the meeting, entrusted the delegation of the core committee to impress upon the NSCN-IM to resume talks and come to a logical issue. The core committee assured Shah that the message will be conveyed to NSCN-IM and the committee will try their best to impress upon the NSCN-IM to resume talks for further dialogue for the sake of solution as desired by the Naga people.
Highly placed sources informed that the core committee requested the intervention of the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to resume talks based on the Framework Agreement, competency of the NSCN-IM and the contents of the then interlocutor R N Ravi’s competency. Shah gave a patient hearing and responded that all the points have been well taken. However, he reiterated the stand of the GoI on the demand of the NSCN-IM for a separate flag and constitution (Yezhabo) stating that the Indian National flag and constitution cannot be compromised.
Minister for Planning and Coordination, Parliamentary Affairs and Land Revenue, Neiba Kronu informed that the committee had also apprised Amit Shah about the 16 July resolution adopted by CCoNPI.
On the issue of a separate flag and constitution, Kronu said,
“These are the issues where they are not coming to terms till now but whatever may be, our request is that there should be a meeting point again and then discuss what is possible and what is not possible because the talk is over by 31 October 2019. So, then few issues which they could not come to terms, I think they have to revisit and then settle the issues.”
Kronu further informed that the GoI is inviting the NSCN-IM again to discuss; however, the date is yet to be confirmed.
Mention may be made that GoI representative A K Mishra, on 13 June 2022, had submitted the formulation papers to the NSCN-IM at New Delhi, which was rejected by the latter since the formulation papers were completely deviated from R N Ravi’s proposal on integration, the constitution (Yezhabo) and Regional Autonomous Territorial Council (RATC). Following this, the NSCN-IM left the national capital refusing to continue talks, and till date talks are yet to be resumed.
