The Department of English at MGM College delivered a spellbinding performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth on 19th October 2024 at the College’s auditorium.
Dr. R.K. Behera, Principal, MGM College, informed in a press release that the much-anticipated production captivated the audience from the very first scene, as the timeless themes of power, ambition, and fate were brought to life with an intensity rarely seen on an academic stage. “The event marked a crowning achievement for the Department of English, showcasing the incredible talent of its students and faculty. Not only did it reaffirm the department’s dedication to promoting literary and cultural engagement, but it also set a new benchmark for future theatrical productions at the college”, the Principal stated.
The production impressed students, faculty and community members with powerful performances by the cast which was enhanced by masterful direction and stunning visuals, including evocative lighting and intricate costumes that transported the audience to the ominous world of 11th-century Scotland.
The program began with a keynote address from Ahikali I Jakha, Head of the English Department at MGM College, who set the stage for the evening by highlighting the significance of Macbeth in today’s world.
This was followed by a message of encouragement by Father Giju George, Administrator of MGM College, who praised the students for their dedication and urged them to embrace activities beyond the curriculum to nurture their talents holistically. Congratulating the department on its success, he called the performance “a testament to the power of the arts in education.”
The evening concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dhozimong Sangtam, a 5th-semester student of the Department of English. The Department expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to making the performance a reality, from the technical crew to the supporting staff and performers.
With this exceptional rendition of Macbeth, MGM College has once again proven that it is not just a center of academic learning but a hub of artistic brilliance, the Principal said.
