The Department of Water Resources Government of Nagaland organised a programme for Commissioning & Handing over function of Shiyong MI project at Aliba Village, Mokokchung, under “PMKSY- Har Khet Ko Pani” on June 26 with Advisor for Water Resources Department, Government of Nagaland, Tongpang Ozukum as the Special Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Ozukum urged upon all the Agri. & allied department to provide all the logistics support and necessary infrastructure that is required at the project. He further said, with the commission of the project there is potential of tourism and recreation, fisheries and aquaculture which will benefit the villagers economically.
The Advisor also thanked the department for allocation of the project and supervising with timely completion of the project.
He further said the objective of PMKSY is to provide” Har Khet Ko Pani” to improve irrigation infrastructure, provide irrigation infrastructure, provide efficient water use and ensure water security for agriculture. Ozukum also handed over the project to the Water User Association (WUA) of Shiyong M.I Project.
The Project’s Memorandum of understanding on behalf of the department was signed by Er. Karipomg Walling, Executive Engineer, WRD Mokokchung. Presenting his technical report on Shiyong M.I project, Er. Sobu Angami, Additional Chief Engineer, WRD said that the project was funded through PMKSY (HKKP), CSS of MoJS, GOI with the estimated cost of Rs 141.92 lakhs.

He said that the commencement of the work started on March 2021 and the completion of the work on April 2024. He also said the area coverage is 69 Ha. and the water spread area of the water body created 3.00 Ha. The project was executed by Executive Engineer Mokokchung Division, Water Resources Department.
Short speech was delivered by Tatongkaba Pongen, Chairman Aliba Village Council and a Special Song was presented by Nungshikala Pongen. The program commenced with an invocation by Rev. Nungshi Pongen, Pastor Aliba Baptist Church, while vote of thanks was proposed by Er. Sademkaba Ozukum, E.E WRD Mokokchung. The programme was led by Imtisungkum UDA, WRD Mokokchung.
