Silver Jubilee celebration of Chiechama Peli Kro Kerepouko Kepekrokelie concludes

The closing ceremony of the silver jubilee celebration of Chiechama Peli Kro Kerepouko Kepekrokelie was graced by Dr Tolto Metha, Deputy Director, AH and VS and Member, NBM- IT and Executive Member, Rattle and Hum Music Society Nagaland as the Guest of Honour. The celebration was attended by 11 farmers group (Peli) and its citizens on January 22 at Amphitheater, Chiechama village, Kohima.

In his speech, Dr Metha thanked the Chiechama Farmers Association for organizing such an important event to bring back the traditional work culture in the Village citing agriculture as the richest industry in India and world. He also urged upon the youngsters to preserve the importance of Peers group (Peli) where one can learn culture, respect and obedience.

Emphasizing on the importance of Bamboo cultivation in the Village, he said that planting bamboos were more suitable in Northern Angami range comparing to other ranges in the district. He encouraged the farmers and young entrepreneurs to start planting bamboo which is a fast-growing plant that can be harvested in 5 years, making it a lucrative option for farmers and entrepreneurs.

He also said that bamboo can be used in various industries, including construction, furniture, paper, textiles, cosmetics and providing  numerous job opportunities which could empower rural communities at large and boost village economy  by providing them with sustainable livelihoods, and  also  craftsmanship and promotes traditional skills, fostering a sense of community for the young entrepreneurs .

He further stated that bamboo plants have ability to sequester carbon dioxide, making it an effective tool in combating climate change, absorb more carbon dioxide than an equivalent area of hardwood forest, and its extensive root system helps prevent soil erosion, maintain soil fertility, and improve water retention.

The ceremony was chaired by Vimelie Metha, Convenor of the organizing committee, while the invocation by Rev Levi Rio. Folk song was performed by Pelebeituo Zumvü and greetings by Advisor of CGOK, Menuokholie Kire.

Keneingutuo Rüpreo (Nourhe Peli) emerged as first position and Kevisezo Sogotsu from (Mekrünuo Peli) as second position respectively in fire making competition

The closing ceremony concluded with a victory folk song, hornbill dance, group folk songs, Tati Pfhe Duet, Quartered performances and the “village walk”. Vote of thanks was delivered by Neitso Sogotsu, Advisor of CFA.
