The Department of Sericulture, Nagaland conducted Skill Upgradation training for the stakeholders under the Silk Samagra-2 organised by the District Sericulture Office, Noklak from 17 October to 22 October at Noklak village Council Hall, Noklak.
Altogether, 20 beneficiaries participated in the training under the mentorship of T Hampao Lam, Assistant Sericulture Officer and Jeolam, Post Graduate Diploma Student (PGDS) as the resource persons.

Field trip to a Sericulture farm in Tuensang.
The main objective of the training was to give an in-depth understanding of the rearing of Eri Silkworm and to encourage farmers to engage in silkworm rearing and as a source of generating income and improve their livelihoods.
T Hampao Lam while briefing an introduction, stressed on how Sericulture is a great practice to generate a sustainable livelihood. Jeolam spoke on the different silkworm and host plant disease under Sericulture, and further emphasised on ways to identify different symptoms and their preventive measures.
The beneficiaries during the following sessions were directed and trained on different important topics comprising of site selection for proper plantation to post-cocoon technology. The topics also included Silkworm and Pest- Management, Silkworm-rearing technology, Rearing House Construction, The Economic Importance of Silkworm and so on.

With the motive of providing the bigger picture and a clearer understanding, the beneficiaries were taken on a one-way field trip to a Sericulture farm in Tuensang where they were exposed to different activities such as post-Cocoon practices, Plantation sites and the use of different machines.
The training was a huge success allowing participants to clear doubts and receive clearer understanding to a wide range of new ideas and practices for the rearing of silkworms.
