Former Nagaland chief minister and former governor of Odisha, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat, S C Jamir has appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to end the Naga political problem before his second term as prime minister of India comes to an end. In a letter to PM Modi, Jamir, while congratulating and complimenting Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the successful run in the recently held assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, said that it was his duty as a senior Naga citizen and political activist to remind the PM of the pending Naga peace talks.

“I was always fascinated by your pragmatic approach and your commitment to deliver to the people on what you promised,” S C Jamir, who served as Governor of Gujarat for around four months when Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of the State, said of the PM while mentioning that Nagas are still awaiting a final Solution and Peace Agreement to end the Naga political problem.

“I have always held conviction that only a single minded determined approach from your end can bring an end to the complex Naga issue”, Jamir stated, adding that only PM Modi has “the ability to deliver, a balanced approach and the clarity in mind and also the political courage” to settle the problem. “I am assuring you, in all my sincerity, your name will be recorded in golden letters in Naga history if a peace pact is inked now,” Jamir said in his letter.
