SLEC grants provisional permission for opening 23 new Private Schools

The State Level Education Committee (SLEC) has granted Provisional Permission for opening of 23 new Private Schools with the conditions that the schools should fulfil all the laid down criteria stipulated in the guidelines notified by the Department of School Education on September 30, 2018 within a period of two years. It would also be subject to fulfilment/adherence to the guidelines/ regulations on standards of schools, including recognition or de-recognition/accreditation as mandated under Nagaland State School Standards Authority (NSSSA).

Pursuant to the decision of the SLEC in its meeting held on December 19, 2025 and based on the fulfilment of the criteria for upgradation, the seven Government Middle Schools listed below are upgraded to Government High Schools and activated with immediate effect.

Pursuant to the decision and approval of the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) in its meeting held on December 19, 2025, Merger/Amalgamation of 17 Government Schools (GHS/GMS/GPS) listed below are notified based on the verification Report/recommendations of the Departmental Officers/stakeholders.

The Merger/Amalgamation shall be effective from the current academic year, i.e., 2026-2027.

The School buildings vacated on account of Merger/Amalgamation would be continue to be the property of the School Education Department, Government of Nagaland and shall be utilised for educational purposes as hostels, teachers’ quarters or other scholastic purposes.

List of Government Schools approved for Merger/Amalgamation-

Pursuant to the decision and approval of the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) in its meeting held on December 19, 2025; based on the physical verification report of zero enrolment/non-functioning of the schools furnished by the Departmental Officers, the 34 Government Primary Schools/Government Middle Schools (GPS/GMS) listed under are notified for closure.

The closure of schools shall be effective from the academic session 2026-27.
