A Small-Scale Poultry Farming project launched by DC Mokokchung Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, is showing positive results.
Moatemsu, from Aonglenden constituency, said he received 100 broiler chicks under the Livelihood Project and recalled the profit was quite satisfactory.
He was awarded the ‘Best Farmer’ under the Livelihood Project. He expressed that he had never expected to get the award but was extremely delighted and has received the award with great honour.

“This type of project helps a poor farmer (like me) who desperately needs assistance,” Moatemsu said while appreciating the project.
He added that the project has helped him in increasing his farming substantially and expressed his sincere wishes for the continuation of this project in order to assist poor and needy farmers.
As an experienced livestock farmer, Moatemsu hopes to continue upgrading his farm and farming practices in the future. He expressed his interest in continuing to rear pigs on his farm. He also acknowledged his neighbours and friends who have encouraged him, stating that they too appreciated the project.
The project was initiated with the objective, livelihood security, sustenance and survival. This was done with the prospect of livelihood generation in Mokokchung.

Beneficiaries from each constituency of Mokokchung district received a hundred broiler chicks.
During the District Planning & Development Board meeting on 20 October, the outcomes of the scheme were reviewed. The committee formed to manage the project reported that a total of Rs 10 lakh was invested while the income generated was about Rs 22 lakh 10 thousand.
The Livelihood Project is an initiative of District Planning Development Board, Mokokchung under LADP common Pool 2021-2022 during the chairmanship of the former DPDB chairman, Minister Tongpang Ozukum.
With the objective of livelihood security, sustenance and survival, the project was managed by a committee comprising of the DC (Chairman), Chief Veterinary Officer, Divisional Forest Office, SCO (Civil) HQ and District Planning Officer (Member Secretary).
Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, a committee member stated that 100 beneficiaries were selected from all ten constituencies. Each beneficiary received a hundred broiler chicks to be reared.
Training on scientific method of rearing was imparted along with distribution of handouts. A technical assistance cell has further been set up under the Nagaland Forest Management Project Cell, Divisional Forest office, Mokokchung with a consultant Livelihood Expert.
The committee further stated that the project has generated livelihood opportunities and sustainable ways of livelihood while also optimising skills upgradation towards the use of scientific method of rearing livestock.
