The Noklak District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Noklak under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao launched a booklet on menstrual health titled ‘Sob Maiki Nimite Mahina (Periods) Laga Jankari’ in collaboration with Boditive India on Tuesday at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Chamber in Noklak.

Reigning Miss Khiamniungan 2023, Thongkoi, who is also the district ambassador for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao unveiled the booklet that contains important information on menstrual health. The brochure has been printed in Nagamese and will be distributed to women and girls. Earlier, the English version was printed and distributed among girl students.

Announcing the launch of the booklet, Thongkoi informed that Boditive is Nagaland’s first Sanitary Napkin Brand. She expressed hope that through the initiative, the society will become more aware. We will be distributing this to all the women in Noklak, she added. The Miss Khiamniungan hoped that each woman goes through the booklet as it is printed in Nagamese to reach a wider audience.

“Your participation in this regard is going to make it a grand success so let us work to build the society that is well informed,” Thongkoi added.

Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, Miss Khiamniungan 2023 stated, “I fear that less than 10 per cent of girls in rural areas are aware of menstrual hygiene. They barely have a clear understanding of the cause behind it.” Further, she asserted that as district ambassador, she along with the team hope to survey schools and educate on the important measures to be taken during their menstrual routine.

Thongkoi also informed that the brochure and the napkins will be distributed to the sub-divisions of Noklak as well, while the outreach programs for accessing the sub divisions will most probably begin by second week of January 2024.
