Naga People’s Front, President Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Wednesday said that solution to Naga political issue does not require new political philosophy, but the political approach based on its history.

He said this while delivering his Presidential address during NPF central office bearers (COB) first meeting of 2023, here at NPF Central HQ, Kohima.

Liezietsu, pointed out that in order to tackle with this problem, the past history is indispensable and without having the knowledge of the past history, he said, without naming anyone, that it will be a futile attempt for a young politician to solve this problem in his own perception however highly qualified, smart and intelligent he may be.

Adding that NPF still holds that political philosophy, which has been passed on to the party by their elders, the only honourable way, to solve the Naga problem. ‘We are there, and we will continue to be there till our goal is achieved,” he said.

Liezietsu reminded the people that in spite of the fast-changing times, one thing that remains unchanged throughout with the Nagas is the seven decades old Naga political issue.

“Other things may keep on changing but the Naga political problem can never change until and unless the matter is resolved with political and human approach.”

Citing the example of, MLA Achumbemo Kikon, who was told by a very senior politician not to go back to the Simon Commission as Kikon had mentioned briefly about the political history of the Nagas, in which he touched upon the memorandum submitted to the Simon Commission by the Naga Club in 1929, Liezietsu said, this simple sentence clearly demonstrated his political philosophy and this is how the present Government may be trying to divert the mind of the young generation to forget the Naga political issue.

“They may divert the mind of few people with their easy money, but for that matter, the Naga political problem will remain the same without any change till a solution is arrived at which is “honourable, acceptable and inclusive,” added Liezietsu.

Liezietsu asserted that the solution to Naga problem does not require any new political philosophy but only ‘trust’. Saying this, he also said that it will be wrong to blame just the Government of India at this juncture. Nagas also have to take the blame in delaying the solution, he added.

He opined that it depends on the leaders, be underground leaders, State Government leaders, leaders of Civil Societies, tribal leaders etc.

Pointing out that today, Nagas have too many organisations and leaders and all those leaders have been preaching about unity and understanding among the Nagas, but on the contrary, he said, it is those leaders who have been creating divisions and factions among the Nagas.

He slammed the Naga leaders for reducing the Naga politics into tribal politics and village politics.

“To talk about Naga unity is a far cry while leaders themselves are responsible for creating divisions and factions. Many leaders want to become monarchs of all what they survey.”

In conclusion he said, “let everything keep on changing as per the prevailing contemporary realities in its own course but since the Naga political problem remains the same without solution for the last more than seven decades, let no politician ever try to misinterpret the problem because the problem remains a reality for the Nagas even today as of old.”
