SS is a general subject, can be taught by Science and English teachers: Minister Metsübo’s response in shortage of SS teachers

Minister of Rural Development, Metsübo Jamir today stated that “Social science is a general subject like hygiene and general science, environment which the Science and English teachers can teach”. Jamir was responding to a supplementary question raised by Kuzholuzo Nienu MLA, on the shortage of Social Science teachers in government schools.

Providing the mentioned rational, Jamir stated that the need to allot Social Science teachers did not arise. He however assured that the Department will distribute and bring rationality to the sanctioned post in all the Government schools and Higher Secondary Schools.

Neiphiu Rio, Minister in charge for School Education also stated that with regard to the shortage of Social science teacher, “there is sufficient number of science and English teachers who are looking after the concern subject.”

Participating in the question hour, MLA, Kuzholuzo Nienu queried the Minister in charge of School Education regarding the total number of subject wise sanctioned teacher posts in all the government high schools in Nagaland.  Replying to the query the Minister in charge Neiphiu Rio stated that there are 1672 sanctioned State Cadre posts of Graduate Teachers currently in 247 Government High Schools, and 645 GTs in 52 Secondary Higher Government Schools across Nagaland.

Rio assured that the department will try to restructure and streamline the appointment and posting process in accordance with the vacancies at the earliest.

The total strength of sanctioned post: 212 Graduate Teachers in 17  Government High Schools in Kohima district; 124 Graduate Teachers in 22 Government High Schools Zunheboto district; 250 Graduate teachers in 38 Government High Schools, Mokokchung district;  158 Graduate Teachers in 15 Government High Schools in Tuensang district; 91 Graduate Teachers in 16 Government High Schools, Mon district.
