The Sangtam Students’ Union Dimapur (SSUD) has expressed concern over rising incidents of bullying and physical assaults involving students, graphics of which were widely circulated in social media platforms recently.

Such unruly conduct among students and youth is a matter of grave concern and a clear indication of an uncertain future, the union said in a press release.

In this regard, the SSUD declared its intolerance towards such behaviour, and issued a stern warning that any individual from the community found indulging in or participating in such offences, including bullying and harassment, whether mental or physical, shall face strict disciplinary action as per the union’s rules and regulations.

The union also asserted that it will not remain indifferent to cases of bullying or harassment directed at individuals from the community. “Members of the community, particularly students who may be facing such challenges, are strongly encouraged to seek support by reaching out to school authorities, the Students’ Union, parents, or elders,” SSUD informed.

The student body also appealed to parents to actively guide their children and spread awareness against bullying and harassment, so that values of respect, discipline, and empathy are instilled from an early age.

Further, the union urged upon all educational institutions to establish accessible anti-

ragging and anti-bullying cells, and conduct mass awareness programs highlighting the harmful effects and serious consequences of bullying, so as to foster a safe and supportive environment for all students.
