St Xavier College, Jalukie celebrates its annual ‘Falcon Fest’

St. Xavier College, Jalukie under Peren district celebrated its annual ‘Falcon Fest’ on 10 November in the college campus, under the theme ‘Preserve culture, Protect Nature’.

Dithui Newmai, former President of the Zeliangrong Students’ Union gracing the occasion as special guest lauded the college with high praise for its contribution to the society and encouraged the students to pursue their goals stressing on the fact that we live in a modern world where competition is the way to go, all the while taking into account the recent social problems that are prevailing in Peren District.

Newmai also stressed on the importance of guarding one’s identity, culture and the significance of one’s traditional attires.

He observed that today’s youngsters are indulging more in the western and Korean pop culture and neglecting their own mother tongue and culture. He encouraged the students to take pride in their culture and safeguard their identity while also adapting with the modern world.

Principal of the college, Reverend Dr Fr Francis S Cheerangal also emphasized on the preservation of culture in its right sense by respecting oneself and being responsible for one another.

Falcon Fest coincides with the arrival of lakhs of Falcons in the campus. The fest is a way to raise awareness to preserve nature including the protection of the falcons and other aspects of nature at large.

The indigenous games conducted on the day include traditional tribal items like bamboo climbing, tug of war, war cry, etc.

The event also marked the appreciation for the principal of the college initiated by the students keeping it as ‘Principal’s Day’.

Earlier the formal programme started with a bible reading and prayer song and the event ended with a social gathering and a celebrative common meal.
