State Level Workshop on Educational Evaluation begins; Advisor Yhome calls for effective teaching and learning process

Kohima: 75% graduates in India unemployed due to lack of skills required for certain jobs

A three-day State Level Workshop on Educational Evaluation for Secondary Teachers Educators and Personnel of School Education, SCERT and SAMAGRA SHIKSHA, Nagaland for 3 days began today at SCTE, Conference Hall, Kohima.

Speaking at the inaugural program, Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said that there are many challenges faced by the educators in the current education system and so he encouraged the educators present at the workshop to improve the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. Yhome mentioned that this year marks the 105th year of the State’s first Matriculation as well as the 100th year of the first Naga Graduate. He said that although Nagaland’s exposure to modern education is very recent, he is hopeful with the progress of the literacy rate in the State.

Deepika Nadig, Director of Shikshangan Initiatives, Pune and Vijay Gupta, Director of Shikshangan Initiatives, Pune are the Resource persons of the three-day State Level Workshop.

In her speech today, Nadig highlighted that Shikshangan initiatives presents a variety of sessions for teachers on specific pedagogical content to enhance teaching effectiveness such as shift from traditional teaching to deep understanding of concepts and skills, including critical thinking and problem solving,  practice inclusivity by respecting individual student’s differences and keeping a lens on learning readiness, multiple interests and learning styles, elevate lesson plans with Effective Pedagogies of Accelerated Learning, Differentiated Instruction and Collaborative Teaching. Thereby unpack syllabus strands across the grades to gain insights on knowledge blocks that help with diagnostic and remedial programs.

Vijay Gupta highlighted that 75% graduates in our country are unemployed due to lack of skills required for certain jobs and that most of the schools including colleges have not been able to ensure good learning that is deep and not just rote memorization for every students who has access to school.  He also elaborated on how to understand, how our brain works while problem solving or in learning and bring brain learning with different strategy. Shikshangan has identified various ways to learn skills, which includes skills like – reading/listening with comprehension, taking notes using appropriate Graphic Organizers, problem solving, planning, seeking help etc., he added.
