The Congress Party Ticket Declaration for Yongkongsangla R was held today at the 25 Mongoya ACCC Bhawan in Artang Ward no. 4 (Reserved for women) for the forthcoming Municipal Council elections.
In her address, Yongkongsangla R, the Congress Party candidate from Artang Ward, asserted that she is ready to contest in the ULB elections and to serve the people. She described herself as a passionate social worker willing to serve the community and the people. She emphasized that the Municipal Act 2023, though discussed for two decades, is still new and it is crucial to blend it with the culture, customs, and traditions of the Ao and Naga communities to implement it effectively.
Yongkongsangla committed to serving her ward, focusing on vocational training, education, and other needs for both women and men. She highlighted the importance of infrastructure, such as roads and footpaths, and expressed her desire to find scholarships for students and establish tutorial homes for school children. She pledged to reach out to both state and central governments to meet her ward’s needs.
Yongkongsangla praised S. Supongmeren, describing him as a “one-man army” who has won the hearts of the Nagas, and expressed her wish to be similarly loved by the people. She dedicated her service to the people and emphasized the importance of a clean election, asking for their votes to work truthfully and with dedication, seeking God’s grace and blessings.
Yongkongsangla R, daughter of Late Rebakokba and Imtichila, was born in1977 and is a resident of at Artang Ward, Mokokchung. She holds an MA in Ao and a B.Ed degree and her long-standing commitment to the teaching profession spans over 18 years. Her notable achievements include receiving the Teachers Sub-Divisional Award in 2015 and the State Teachers Awards in 2021.
Speaking at the programme, Watimongba, DCCI President of Mokokchung, in his address, expressed hope that Yongkongsangla R would win and urged everyone to uphold her in their prayers. He noted that this ULB election is a new endeavor for the Nagas but reminded that they have prior experience working in the town committee, which could guide them. He emphasized that the formation of Artang Ward is recent and requires a capable person for development.
Watimongba also mentioned that the Mokokchung, Dimapur, and Kohima Municipal councils are directly linked to Delhi, whereas other town councils are connected only to Kohima, highlighting the potential for significant development.
He commended MP Supongmeren’s willingness to help and acknowledged the tireless work of Congress Party members, despite the lack of financial assistance, with the support of well-wishers and dedicated members.
Other notable speakers at the event included the Artang Ward Council, the Working President of the 25 Mongoya ACCC, the President of Mahila 25 Mongoya ACCC, Sanglipong S. Pongen, General Secretary of NPYC Org, Toshipokba LKR, Ex-MLA and PCC Member, and Sungratsu Senso Senden.
Imtinungsang, the Working President of ACYC, chaired the program, while Nokden, Associate Pastor of Home ABA, pronounced the invocation. Bendangkokba, President of Artang Unit 25 Mongoya ACCC, gave greetings.
