The Naga Students’ Federation has expressed its deep anguish at the gruesome murder of Ahoa Konyak/ Hoamei Konyak in Tizit on Thursday. While condemning the inhumane act, the federation demanded befitting punishment to the culprit.
Lt. Ahoa Konyak/ Hoamei Konyak was allegedly hacked to death by a drug peddler at Pentom Ward, Tizit Town. The accused is in police custody.
NSF also appealed the concerned authorities to ramp up measures to tackle the inflow of drugs and other contrabands which is ‘corroding the morale of the youth and the Naga society at present.
The Konyak Students’ Union expressed shock over the horrific incident that took the life of lt. Ahoa Konyak. The union while strongly condemning the inhuman act, appeal the law enforcing agency to penalize the culprit as per the law and deliver justice for the innocent deceased at the earliest.
KSU stated that the incident is a ‘Wake-up Call for Konyak Community’. It said that annihilation of illicit drug usage and substances in the district has been one of the prime agenda of the union and that based of the union’s resolution, inspection are conducted periodically. However, insufficient resources, manpower and legal assistance have been hindering it from achieving the desired goal.
The union expressed its dissatisfaction over the measures related to Drug Prohibition taken by government and warned that the body will be ‘compelled to act on our own volition if the Government remain adamant’.

The Konyak Students’ Union, Kohima stated that the deceased was a responsible and concerned students’ leader, adorned by all and that his death has shocked the whole Konyak community. It said that the culprit must be prosecuted for murder under 302 of the IPC and also under Section 275 of the IPC and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
KSU Kohima demanded justice the victim and also the student community as a whole.
The Mon Village Students’ Union said the inhuman and diabolical act has ‘outraged the sentiments’ of the entire student community and NGOs working tirelessly in the ‘War Against Drugs’.
The Union appealed to the concern authority to ensure that the perpetrator of such crime be punished without any delay and bring justice to the family and to the students’ community in general.
The Mon Town Students’ Union has condemned the brutal killing of lt. Hoamei Konyak /Ahoa Konyak on Thursday in Tizit, Mon district. The union stated that the deceased who was serving as the chairman of the action committee of Tizit Area Students’ Union, sacrificed his life for the cause of the society.
The Longphaoh Students’ Union, while condemning the brutal act appealed to the law enforcing agency not to leave any stone unturned to bring justice.
LSU stated that it was profoundly bothered by the unfortunate incident disturbing the peace in Tizit town and its residents through this heinous act. Further, the union requested all right thinking citizens to condemn such barbaric acts committed by anyone towards anybody.
NSF, KSU, KSU Kohima, MVSU, MTSU and LSU extended its deepest condolences and assured their solidarity with the bereaved family and Tizit Area Students’ Union
Besides student bodies, some leaders of the state has also condemned the killing of the Chairman of the Action Committee, TASU.
Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton expressed shock and sadness on Twitter. He posted, “I vehemently condemn the brutal act that unfolded in Tizit, and the sacrifice of late Shri Konyak will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace! At this critical juncture, I urge everyone in Tizit and across Nagaland to remain calm and let the law take its course.”
S Phangnon Konyak, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, stated that the perpetrators must be awarded stringent punishment as per the provisions of the law. She also appealed to the citizens of Tizit to maintain peace and abstain from violence which will only aggravate the situation. The MP added, “I call upon the concerned authorities to ensure peace, instill confidence in the public and above all, justice.”
P Paiwang Konyak, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, also said, “Extremely shocked & pained to hear the tragic death of Mr. AHOA KONYAK Action Committee Chairman of TASU. Strongly condemned the gruesome act & urge upon the law enforcing agencies to investigate & bring fair justice to the victim. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.”
