She highlighted that the aim of the theme is to raise awareness about the importance of changing the narrative surrounding suicide and transforming to deal with this complex issue among the young people.

She mentioned that suicide is a leading cause of death and pointed out that mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression are increasing day by day in Nagaland.

The Clinical Psychologist encouraged all the youth, individuals and communities to engage in honest and open discussion about the mental issues and suicide, adding that starting the conversation can enable one to break down barriers and raise awareness. Further, Yangkhumla stressed the need to shift from a culture of silence and stigma when it comes to metal illness and suicide.

She encouraged sharing with friends, family or approaching counsellor no matter how small or big the issue may seem which will foster a more supportive and understanding society where suicide can be prevented and everyone feels valued.
