Dimapur District under District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) observed Suicide Prevention Week 2025 to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day by organizing suicide awareness programmes in collaboration with Lapiye Centre, for Mental Wellbeing at Government Middle School Dubagaon on September 8 and at Servanthood Bible College, 7th Mile on September 11 under the theme “Changing the narrative on Suicide”.
During these awareness programmes, Dr Temsuyanger Ao, Psychiatrist, District Hospital Dimapur sensitized the students and staffs on the causes of suicide, how to identify warning signs, and steps to be taken to prevent suicide. He also highlighted on other suicide related issues.
Lovitoli Awomi, Counseling Psychiatrist, Lapiye Centre spoke on the theme presenting the status of suicide in the state noting higher incidence of suicide cases among male. She also spoke on social bullying and it adverse effects.
Awomi stressed on the importance of educating the teachers and parents on mental health issues and setting up peer groups as support groups as part of suicide prevention strategies.

Participants led by Dr Temsuyanger took pledge to raise awareness of suicide in the community. Ice breaking sessions were conducted by Psychology Interns and group activities were led by NeimhanuKulnu, Psychiatric Social Worker under DMHP.
The programme held at Government Middle School Dubagaon was chaired by Naomi Awomi, Psychology Intern, followed by invocation prayer by Kava A Zhimomi and welcome address was delivered by Simon P Yeptho, Head teacher, GMS Dubagaon while during the programme at Servanthood Bible College, the programme was chaired by Kava A Zhimomi, Psychology Intern, followed by invocation by Atozheli Awomi and keynote address by Moa Jamir, Principal, SBC.
