The Sungkomen ward surveillance camera activation cum dedication program was held on Saturday, May 31 at Peniel Hall, Sungkomen Baptist Church, Mokokchung.

An initiative of the Sungkomen Youth Organisation (SYO) in collaboration with the Social Concern Committee of Sungkomen Baptist Church, a total of 16 surveillance cameras have been successfully installed across various locations in the Sungkomen Ward of Mokokchung Town as a step towards enhancing security and vigilance. The initiative aims to instill a sense of collective responsibility, with heightened vigilance to crack down on anti-social activities and maintain discipline and safety in the locality.

Out of the 16 surveillance cameras installed, eight were purchased through funds raised by the Surveillance Camera Installation Committee of the Sungkomen Youth Organisation, while the remaining eight were donated by the Social Concern Committee of Sungkomen Baptist Church.

The surveillance cameras will be monitored by a five-member committee, known as the Surveillance Camera Installation Committee, comprising members from the Sungkomen Ward Council and the Sungkomen Youth Organisation.

Temsukaba Kichu, Convenor of the Surveillance Camera Installation Committee and Advisor to the SYO, stated that the project was officially adopted as an agenda by the ward Yimden during the General Meeting held in December 2024. A fundraising feast was organized on December 12, 13, and 14 to generate financial support for the project.

Kichu shared that although the idea was first discussed in 2022, the successful installation required not just funding, but also logistical support such as electrification, Wi-Fi access, and suitable locations for mounting the cameras. He expressed gratitude to seven households who generously offered their homes to host the equipment and shared their Wi-Fi connections for the functioning of the surveillance system.

Acknowledging the collective effort behind the initiative, Kichu thanked the residents of Sungkomen for their financial, physical, and moral contributions. He also extended his appreciation to neighboring Tongdentsüyong Ward Councillors and youths, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT), and the Dilong Youth Association for their support.

“Installing the cameras wasn’t an easy task. It involved coordination, technical setup, and cooperation from the community. We need such surveillance not just for Sungkomen Ward but for the safety of all Mokokchung citizens,” Kichu said.

To ensure the system is maintained and monitored properly, a five-member Surveillance Camera Installation Committee has been formed. Kichu emphasized the importance of care and management after installation, stating that the effort would be meaningless without continued vigilance.

He expressed hope that the initiative will inspire all 18 wards of Mokokchung Town to come together and implement similar surveillance systems for improved public safety. “This is a great achievement. Without God’s help, it wouldn’t have been possible,” he added.

Sungkomen Ward Chairman, Yangerjungba, commended the Sungkomen Youth Organization (SYO) for initiating the surveillance camera installation project. He stated that the agenda was first introduced by SYO in 2022 and was later adopted. Although financial constraints delayed the execution, the SYU, with support from the ward council, entrusted the responsibility to SYO. “Today, we are witnessing the successful completion of the project,” he said.

He also highlighted the vital role played by the Sungkomen Baptist Church, describing it as a “socially concerned dedicated church” whose contributions have consistently supported the ward’s welfare.

The Chairman appreciated the unity and dedication of the youth, churches, and the ward council, acknowledging their collective contribution towards the installation of the surveillance system. “We see good souls in our youth organizations. Led by the churches, the ward council, and the youth, this collaboration shows the strength of Sungkomen,” he added. He encouraged the youth to continue working for the upliftment of the ward, assuring them of the council’s full support. “To keep up with the world, let this be our aim,” he concluded.

Matsung Longkumer, Asst Pastor, SBC said the Dedicatory Prayer. Imrongkumba Aier, President of SYO, also extended gratitude to the committee and contributors.
