Congress and INDIA consensus candidate for the Nagaland seat, S Supongmeren Jamir has said that he is standing against all odds for the cause of Secularism and to save the Nagas from BJP policies and activities. He was speaking at a campaign rally at Sanis, Wokha, on 11th April, organised by the Wokha District Congress Committee.
Jamir stated that people may scoff at the Party for fielding a candidate for the Lok Sabha election and asserted that Congress is standing bold and brave because it is standing for the cause of the Naga people.
He claimed that if the BJP gets another term, Article 371 (A) which gives special status to Nagaland may be abrogated. Further, Jamir cautioned against the threats of BJP’s Uniform Civil Code and Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act 2023 on Nagaland and its culture.
President of Sanis unit of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Chenithung Jami, in his address stressed upon the consequences that the verdict of the upcoming poll will have on the rights of the common people of India, especially for those belonging to the minority communities, and expressed confidence in the collective intelligence of the people of Nagaland to rise above narrow socio-economic considerations this time and vote for change.
Capt GK Zhimomi, Vice President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), rued the conspicuous silence of the legislators of Nagaland on the Manipur violence, opining that the BJP and the NDPP are essentially two sides of the same coin. He cited the absence of the NDPP Manifesto to buttress his assertion.
