Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, has expressed disappointment that despite the Government of India signing two agreements with Naga groups, it has still failed to deliver a final solution to the Naga political issue.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme here, the Lok Sabha MP questioned whether there is a genuine grassroots demand for a solution, remarking, “Yes, this is it, but at the grassroots level, whether the Nagas have this demand for solution or not — this is one question.” He also questioned the intent behind the opposition-less government, asking, “Whether opposition-less is for solution or for political advantage?”

The MP warned that continued neglect by the Centre could worsen divisions among the Naga groups and no one can stop groups who claim to be fighting for the Naga cause. “It is no surprise there are 31 factions. It will create more,” he said, adding, “So for the solution, the oppositionless government has to be very sincere, the public has to be united together and the Government of India has to immediately give the solution.”

On the Dimapur–Kohima highway (NH-29/NH-2), which has been affected by repeated rockfalls, mudslides, and casualties, Jamir asserted that the State Government must take responsibility. “For any kind of developmental work, the state is responsible; therefore, the state government has to come forward with better policies and guidance,” he stated.

He claimed that the contractors and the National Highway authorities (NHIDCL) are not facing fund shortages; they are getting enough funds, and the contractors even get insurance money for mudslides/landslides. The only loss is to the public. He urged the public and the administration not to use “lame excuses” and emphasized that the State Government must immediately solve the land compensation problems with landowners, as fund allocation is not the issue.

“They should not blame the land owners, but immediately solve the land owners’ compensation problems and then only road connectivity has to come because there is no problem for funds. Even though there is mudslides, landslides, etc. there is no loss for contractor. They are getting the money recovered from the insurance. So it is a loss to the public,” the MP maintained.

Replying to a query on Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) issue, which the MP had also raised in the Parliament earlier, Supongmeren said he represented and voiced in the Parliament because at that point of time, the tripartite talk had not started. “Now state Government and the demand group, the NGOs and Government of India are in tripartite talk. I think the tripartite talk has to be solved immediately.

When pointed out that despite his recent meeting with the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) officials and assurances to develop Dimapur Railway Station into a world-class station, no significant development activity is visible,  the MP pointed out that the administration is working out to get an immediate solution to have a world class railway station.

He disclosed that the Railway authorities have identified 92 areas which have to be dismantled. “Now it is our state Government, which has to pursue and see that land encroachment is cleared immediately.”

When asked how the Congress party plans to gain confidence of public in the wake of the recent merger of NDPP and NPF parties and whether they would contest all 60 seats in 2028 elections, the Lok Sabha MP, who is also the President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said regardless of the activities of other parties, he is “very sure” the people would maintain confidence in and vote for the Congress in 2028 because it is a secular party.
