The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Kohima, in collaboration with the Nagaland Sports Association, organised a two-day free football camp and an exhibition match at the IG Stadium in Kohima, DIPR stated. The inaugural ceremony witnessed the participation of Vihuzo Kense, the SVEEP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation) Icon for Kohima, who also held the titles of Mr. Kohima 2022 and Mr. Mega Northeast 2023.
Kense emphasized the importance of enhancing the registration of 18 and 19-year-olds in the electoral roll through SVEEP interventions. The SVEEP program is designed to educate electors about the registration process, correction of existing details, and name deletion.
DIPR also stated that Kense highlighted the objectives of SVEEP, describing it as a multi-dimensional structure that operates from the grassroots level to the national level. He announced that SVEEP camps would be organized on the 3rd, 4th, 17th, and 18th of November 2023 and encouraged all eligible individuals to enroll.
He emphasized the need for youth involvement in community planning and decision-making, noting that while this aspect has not received much attention in the past, youth are increasingly taking part in community development. Kense suggested that colleges and higher secondary institutions can appoint ambassadors who would play a vital role in registering eligible youth and students in their institutions.
The inaugural program was chaired by Dr Riku Khutso, the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) in Kohima. According to DIPR, a mini-tournament was scheduled to commence on the 10th of November 2023, starting at 11 am, followed by an exhibition match between the District Election Office, Kohima, and the Chief Electoral Office, Kohima.
