Preparations are underway for the Statewide Mega Mock Drill on Earthquake Disaster for Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise.
A DIPR report Informed that a tabletop exercise (TTEx) was conducted in preparation for the statewide Mega Mock Drill Exercise on Earthquake Disaster for Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx), scheduled for November 2 in Dimapur. The TTEx was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Dimapur on October 31, in the presence of Dr. Tinojongshi Chang NCS, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe, ADC, Dimapur, and Yanthungbemo Kikon, SDO ©.
During the TTEx, the facilitators guided the participants on procedures, plans, and policies to be followed during dangerous scenarios, with a focus on handling emergencies in a stress-free environment. The exercise also emphasized familiarization with rules, guidelines, and responsibilities during earthquakes. The facilitators encouraged all representatives from various line departments to seek clarification on any doubts and queries and to be fully prepared for impending disasters.
Additionally, a video conference for the tabletop exercise with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Nagaland and the National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, was held after the TTEx.
The state-wide Mega Mock Drill Exercise on Earthquake Disaster for Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) is scheduled to take place on November 2. The drill will commence at 9 AM with a siren from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Dimapur. The staging area for the drill will be at the State Stadium, Dimapur. The locations in Dimapur where the mock drill will be conducted include: Forest Department Residential Block, Government Middle (Lotha) School Duncan, Government High School, Sarbura, Dimapur Government College and Pantaloons, Dimapur.
LONGLENG
In preparation for the Multi-State Level Mock Exercise on earthquake disaster scheduled for November 2, a Table Top Exercise took place on October 31, at the DC’s Conference Hall in Longleng. The exercise was conducted under the chairmanship of Meyazungba Jamir, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Longleng, informed the DIPR.
During the exercise, Vekuzo Lohe, District Programme Officer (DPA) of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in Longleng, urged all officials to actively participate in the Mock Exercise. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness and enhancing their capabilities to respond effectively when actual disasters strike.
Lohe also provided information about the sequence of the Mock Exercise and discussed the structure of the Incident Response System (IRS). The IRS is composed of Incident Commanders, the Operation Section, the Planning Section, the Logistic Section, and various Unit Leads.
He further elaborated on the participation of various government departments and their roles and responsibilities within the IRS framework of the district. Lohe also mentioned that four incident locations have been identified for the Mock Exercise, adding to the realism and complexity of the training.
The Table Top Exercise was attended by representatives from various departments and stakeholders in the Longleng district, ensuring a collaborative and coordinated approach to disaster preparedness.
PHEK
In preparation for the upcoming Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx), a Table Top Exercise was conducted at the DC’s Conference Hall Phek on October 31. The exercise aimed to enhance readiness for the Mega Mock Exercise on Earthquake Disaster scheduled for November 2 in Phek Town.
Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, NCS, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority in Phek, conducted the exercise session. During the session, Deputy Commissioner Phek, Kuko Mero, NCS, urged all officers involved in the Incident Response System (IRS) structure to prepare mentally and perform their assigned responsibilities flawlessly during the Mega Mock Exercise on Earthquake Disaster to be held on November 2 in Phek Town.
Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra, IPS, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Phek, emphasized the importance of taking the Mega Mock Exercise on November 2 seriously. She reminded the officers to approach the exercise as if it were a real-life scenario, ensuring that they practice with the same level of dedication.
The exercise session saw the participation of various officers from different sections within the Incident Response System (IRS), including SDO© Hq, Tsenthungo E. Ngullie, NCS.

KIPHIRE
Departmental officers Kiphire attended the coordination meeting in view of the upcoming Nagaland emergency preparedness exercise on October 31 at the DC’s Conference hall Kiphire. The Deputy Commissioner Kiphire John Tsulise presided over the meeting. During the discussion, the DC expressed that concerned officers has to participate in person in the upcoming mock drill. The absence of any officers in the mock drill without genuine reason would be treated seriously and will be reported to higher authority, warned the DC.
CHÜMOUKEDIMA
A table top exercise was held on October 31 at the DC, Conference Hall, Chumoukedima chaired by DC Abhinav Shivam, IAS. The meeting was held regarding the State Wide Mock drill exercise which is to be carried out on November 2. The exercise is being organised by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority, Minster of Home Affairs, GoI. Which will simulate on the earthquake of magnitude 8.7 on Richter scale.
ADC, Chumoukedima briefed on the mock drill scenario and appraised that the exercise will take place at four sites respectively- Govt Higher Sec School, Mt. Mary College, Koutsu Market Complex, and Cosmopolitan School and main staging area will be at local ground, Chümoukedima. There was also a briefing from observers and section presentation from operation, planning and logistics respectively. DC, Abhinav Shivam, IAS, at the meeting highlighted the concerned departments to know their roles and duties and nudged them to be prepared to carry out smooth assistance on the day of the exercise.
The meeting held a spruced discussion in attendance from all the concerned departments briefing on the response, rescue and rehabilitation preparation plan and strategy to mitigate during high-intensity earthquakes disaster. In addition, all the concern citizens of that incident sites area has been requested not to panic as it is a mock drill exercise and to cooperate with the authority.
