Tashi Barfunpa donates solar lights to displaced communities from Myanmar

In a heartening gesture of compassion and support, Tashi Barfunpa, the Chairperson of Impulse NGO Network, Shillong, Director of Hope Sikkim, and President of the Bar Association, Sikkim has donated solar lights to displaced communities who have come from Myanmar to  settled  Noklak district . The main motive of the initiative is to help students who are struggling with frequent electricity shortages in Noklak.

Barfunpa visited Noklak in March this year to supervise ongoing activities of the Impulse NGO Network and to meet with key stakeholders in the district. During his visit, he observed the difficult living conditions of many displaced families and the challenges students face due to irregular electricity in the district.

“Seeing the condition of the displaced people and their struggle to survive,  pains me,” Barfunpa said. He also mentioned that while the situation is not unique to Noklak, they extend their assistance wherever it is most needed. ‘We cannot donate to every student or family but have given to those who needed the most,” he added.

The solar lights are expected to make a  difference in the lives of those who received which will allow them to continue their education without interruption caused by power outages. Local residents and educational stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, expressing gratitude for the timely support. The Impulse NGO Network under Barfunpa’s leadership continous to work across the Northeast in areas of human rights, livelihood, and community development.
