The road connecting the Local Daily Market to Dr Motsüo Memorial District Hospital (Civil Hospital) in Wokha has long remained neglected, with potholes and uneven surfaces posing risks to commuters.
In a civic initiative, the Taxi Union operating along the stretch has undertaken repair work to improve its condition, easing daily movement for patients, students and the general public.
President of the Taxi Union, Tumchobemo Kikon, highlighted the strategic importance of the road, stating that it also serves the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), a college and the District Sub-Jail. He lamented that despite its significance, the road has not received financial support from the government.
Kikon further informed that the union has been pooling limited resources annually to carry out maintenance while struggling to earn their daily wages, expressing disappointment that such an important stretch continues to be overlooked.

Sources from the contractor community said the road was sanctioned for repair by the Department of Urban Development in June. However, persistent rainfall has delayed the commencement of work, which is expected to begin once weather conditions improve.
