The 5th Convocation of the National Institute of Technology was held on January 24 with Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along gracing the event held at Chümoukedima.
In his address, Imna Along expressed the belief that “students will be the forerunners as technical experts in their fields, championing development, championing the course of empowering our people of the nation’s by their skills, by their knowledge envisioning Viksit Bharat 2047 and beyond for the people of this nations and for the people of the Nagas.”
According to DIPR, the Minister mentioned that the merits earned through scholastic and endeavour is not just for the pride of self or for degree to uphold in the common room or bedroom to show to people but their scholastic enterprise of their intellectual and knowledge they have achieved is for nation building and empowering people.
“Today the State of Nagaland is suffering from literate people. Our literacy is so high they cannot do anything or analyse but become a burden to people, families and government. Hence, the journey of vision should be within us. The journey of having a vision and working cannot come from somewhere that one have only studied but endeavours with passion,” emphasized Along.
The sacrifices made in the journey of the nation or the journey of Nagaland was also highlighted where the Minister credited the sacrifices and challenges for establishing a nation being build and developed, where inclusiveness and social security are of paramount.

To the students, Along expressed that connecting with teachers is of significance. “With the humility of leaders of NIT, students are getting the most optimal knowledge, tackling as a potential human to be greatly intellectual in knowledge to empower the people,” stated Along. Acknowledging the policy of GoI to have one NIT, IIMs, IITs in all the States, Along, urged the parents and citizens to take advantage of Institutes like NIT. Along also informed on the collaboration between NIT and the Polytechnics of Nagaland, which he hoped will strengthen the Polytechnics to become the centre of excellence for technology.
At the convocation, the highlights of the programme included the welcome address and declaration of the convocation by the chairman BOG; presentation of the annual report by Director, NIT; presentation of the candidates for the award of Ph.D, M. Tech, B. Tech, M. Sc and Gold medals by the Chief Guest, and Dissolution of Convocation by the chairman, BOG.
