Thanksgiving program of Councillor Maongtula of Alempang Ward No. 1 held

A Thanksgiving program of Maongtula, elected member of ULB, Alempang Ward No.1 was held at Community hall, Alempang Ward on July 16.

Maongtula, expressed gratitude in her address to all members of the ward, including her family, for their support. She acknowledged the trust placed in her by the National Democratic People’s Party (NDPP) and recounted her journey in the ULB elections. Born and raised in Alempang Ward, she emphasized her lifelong commitment to serving the community with her abilities.

Reflecting on her unexpected decision to contest the election, Maongtula affirmed her readiness to serve the community wholeheartedly. She credited the encouragement of the ward’s women’s wing and various local committees for motivating her candidacy. She acknowledged the important role of organizations like the Naga Mothers Association and Watsü Mungdang in achieving the milestone of 33% women’s reservation in the ULB.

Maongtula underscored the importance of unity and support within the ward, calling for mutual encouragement, understanding, and collaboration to foster its development. She expressed gratitude for the prayers, wisdom, and knowledge of the ward members, highlighting their ongoing importance in shaping Alempang’s future success.

Tongpang Ozukum, Advisor of Water Resources, Government of Nagaland, expressed appreciation in his address for the NDPP party’s ticket committee of Mokokchung District for their trust and belief in the elected member of Alempang Ward, acknowledging their decision to grant her the ticket.

He underscored the historical context of the Nagaland Municipal Act, first initiated in 2001 and subsequently amended over the years due to challenges in conducting elections. Ozukum highlighted the recent significant amendment in 2023, reducing the Act’s length from 281 to 68 pages, which was passed during a special session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in November 2023.

Ozukum praised Maongtula’s uncontested victory, attributing it to the dedication of various committees and the support and understanding of ward members and councils. He emphasized the peaceful conduct of the election, devoid of discord or financial extravagance, owing to the community’s cooperation.

Referring to constitutional provisions under the 12th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, Ozukum outlined the mandatory functions and potential additional responsibilities outlined in Chapter 6, Sections 61 and 62 of the Municipal Act. He stressed the importance of these duties and encouraged elected councilors to undergo orientation programs to better understand their roles and responsibilities.

In closing, Ozukum urged councilors to diligently serve their communities, emphasizing the continuous search of knowledge and personal growth, stating, “there is no limit to learning, and it is a great responsibility.”

Lemasashi, Chairman Alempang ward Council, President, NDPP Region, President, NDPP 24 angetyongpang AC, President, NDPP Alempang Unit, Sungratsu Senso Senden Mokokchung, President, Alempang Watsu Telen, K. Imtimeren, Ex. MTC member also delivered short speeches.

Imnasangla, Alempang Ward chaired the program, I. Rongsen Lkr, Deacon Alempang Baptist Church pronounced the invocation, Rev. Ngangnen, Pastor Alempang Baptist Church conducted the dedicatory prayer while Sentizulu Convenor Campaign Committee delivered the vote of thanks.
