M. Y Retreat located above I.S.B.T, Kohima was inaugurated on Monday by Temjen Imna Along, the Minister of Higher Education & Tourism.
During the inaugural, Temjen Imna Along spoke on Nagaland and its tourism industry which are relatively new sectors, striving to provide a unique experience to tourists. However, Along expressed concern that despite the state’s claim of being hospitable, the hospitality often dwindles after 3-4 days. “The initial warmth towards guests often turn into complaints and a short-sighted approach prevail, resulting in a hope for the departure of guests,” said Along.
Along also stressed on the importance of highlighting both contemporary and traditional aspects of the culture. He urged commitment and focus for future opportunities, emphasizing that the destination should not be overlooked even in the face of challenges.
The importance of building relationships and providing a positive experience was also highlighted where the Minister maintained that success in this endeavor required focus, commitment, and an understanding that government support did not mean everything was free. Along urged the gathering to recognize that in tourism, repeated visits were likely if the initial experience was positive, emphasizing the importance of curating such experiences for lasting impact.
