The Chief Electorate Officer, Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, IAS informed on Thursday that as part of its effort to curb the menace of money power during the upcoming election, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has requisitioned the service of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) under Article 324 of the Constitution of India.
ECI had on 18 January announced that the General Election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly-2023 will be conducted on 27th February 2023 and the Model Code of Conduct was enforced on the same day.
The statement from the office of the CEO said that the requisition had been made to restrict the use of money, contraband items and fake Indian currency notes (FICN) which may be used as inducement during election.
