During the preparation of Log Drum in the deep jungle, the leader first selects the tree and marks it with a cut. It is believed that if fresh leaves fall from the selected trunk, it indicates longevity and prosperity, and if dry leaves fall, it indicates misfortune for the community.
In the tradition of the Tikhir Naga, the Log Drum becomes more than a wooden artefact. It transforms into a guardian of the people and a symbol of their collective spirit.
The Log Drum that was pulled at Kisama on Tuesday hails from the 139th pillar along the Indo-Myanmar International Border, from Pokphur village, Shamator district.
