Tiranga Yatra held in Dimapur to honour Indian armed forces

A Tiranga Yatra rally was held in Dimapur on May 17, drawing citizens from all walks of life in a display of unity and patriotism. The rally, organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland unit, was led by State BJP President Benjamin Yepthomi and aimed to express solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces.

The procession commenced at the Supermarket area, passed through Walford, and concluded at the DDSC Stadium. Notably, the event was conducted in a non-partisan manner, with no political party flags or symbols permitted underscoring its nationalistic spirit.

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan attended the event, along with Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Jacob Zhimomi, who addressed the crowd. Highlighting India’s commitment to peace, Zhimomi spoke on the significance of national unity, especially in times of external threats. He acknowledged the sacrifices of the armed forces across land, air, and sea and reiterated Nagaland’s support for national initiatives such as Operation Sindoor.

One of the rally’s key highlights was the display of a 170-metre-long Indian national flag, carried by participants through the streets, as chants of unity and patriotic slogans echoed through the city. The event witnessed participation from students of around ten schools, ex-servicemen, and members of various community organizations.

Pastor Romeo Sumi of the Nagamese baptist church, Burma camp, was among the speakers, along with representatives from the Muslim council Dimapur, Bengali Samaj, Dimapur district citizens’ forum, Western students’ union, Marwari Samaj Dimapur, Bihari Samaj, and Jain Yuva. Each expressed steadfast support for the Indian military and paid tribute to the sacrifices made in service of the nation and concluded with a collective pledge of unity and a solemn moment of tribute to the Indian Armed Forces, reinforcing themes of national pride and communal harmony in Dimapur.
