A team on 19 September, led by district nodal officer National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Mon, Dr I Simon Sumi, conducted an Enforcement Drive against sale of tobacco in Mon town. People from administration, police personnel and National Tobacco Control Programme staffs were part of the enforcement team.
The drive was organised under National Tobacco Control Programme and will be conducted twice a month.
The team checked shops that that situated 100 yards within the radius of educational institution and caught ten shops selling tobacco products. The items were seized from the shops and shop owners were issued warnings.
Hefty fines will be levied if the shop owners are caught selling tobacco products in the future, the source said. The seized items were burnt up.
