he second day of the Tokhü Emong Bird Count (TEBC) 2025 continued today at the Nature Learning Centre, Forest Office Complex, Dimapur, with participants gathering once again to celebrate birds and community-driven conservation.
The event was chaired by Lesemew M, Chairman, Eco Warriors Nagaland.
The programme began with a welcome address by Lesemew M, followed by an opening prayer from Tsujang T of Eco Warriors Nagaland. The keynote address was delivered by Lansothung Lotha, Range Forest Officer, I/C Doyang Beat, Wokha Forest Division, who emphasized the importance of collective conservation efforts and citizen participation in biodiversity monitoring. He also encouraged participants from the State Environment and Forest Training Institute (SEFTI), Dimapur, to take up birding as both a hobby and a means of contributing to scientific data through platforms like eBird.

Chenibemo Odyuo, Senior Project Manager at the Foundation for Ecological Security, delivered a special address highlighting the collaborative initiatives between community groups and forest departments in strengthening ecological awareness in Nagaland.
An engaging session on the use of eBird and Merlin Bird ID apps was conducted by Tekameren I Jamir of Eco Warriors Nagaland. The demonstration helped new participants understand bird identification and data entry processes, making citizen science accessible and exciting for all.
Ningsanglong Longchari of Eco Warriors Nagaland delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the cooperation of all participants, partners, and supporting organizations. The event concluded with a closing prayer by S Limkhung of Eco Warriors Nagaland.

Following the formal programme, participants took part in an interactive birding session and light refreshments at the Forest Colony Complex, Dimapur. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as birders documented various local and migratory species, contributing valuable observations to the ongoing state-wide count.
With strong participation and continued support from both communities and institutions, the second day of TEBC 2025 reinforced Nagaland’s growing movement in citizen-led bird monitoring and environmental stewardship.
